The Black Axolotl is a rare and fascinating aquatic salamander that brings charm, mystery, and personality to any cool-water setup. With its dark, velvety colour and signature feathery gills, this fully aquatic amphibian is a true conversation starter.

🖤 Appearance & Personality:
Black Axolotls have smooth, dark skin ranging from charcoal grey to jet black, and frilly external gills that fan out like underwater lace. They’re curious, slow-moving, and full of quirky behaviours—watch them float, explore, and even “smile” at you from the glass.

Tank Size: 60L+ per axolotl

Water Parameters:
Temperature: 16–20°C (Keep cool – no heaters needed)
pH: 6.5–7.5
Ammonia/Nitrites: 0 ppm – they are very sensitive to poor water quality

Diet: Carnivorous – feed earthworms, axolotl pellets, bloodworms, and frozen meaty foods

Temperament: Peaceful and solitary – best kept alone or with other axolotls of similar size

Best Kept With: Other axolotls (same size); avoid fish, snails, or anything nippy or small

🪴 Aquascaping Tip:
Use soft sand or a bare bottom to prevent impaction (avoid gravel). Include caves, hides, and smooth decorations. Avoid strong filters—axolotls prefer low-flow environments.
