The Bleeding Heart Tetra (Hyphessobrycon erythrostigma) is a beautiful South American tetra recognised by its silvery-pink body and distinctive red “heart” marking behind the gills. Peaceful, social and graceful, this species makes an excellent addition to larger planted community aquariums.

Bleeding Heart Tetras are shoaling fish rather than strict tight-schooling fish. They may spread out around the aquarium when comfortable but will group together more closely when startled or during active swimming. Keeping them in a larger group helps encourage natural behaviour and reduces stress.
