The Celestial Pearl Danio (Danio margaritatus), commonly known as the CPD or Galaxy Rasbora, is a small and beautifully patterned freshwater fish known for its dark body, pearl-like spots and bright red-orange fins. Peaceful and colourful, they are especially well suited to mature planted aquariums with plenty of cover.

  • Adult size: Approximately 2–2.5 cm

  • Temperament: Peaceful but can be shy

  • Social behaviour: Shoaling species and should be kept in groups of at least 6–8, with groups of 10 or more preferred

  • Tank mates: Best with other small peaceful fish such as tiny rasboras, Green Neon Tetras, Pygmy Corydoras, Otocinclus and peaceful shrimp

  • Avoid with: Large, aggressive or highly active fish that may intimidate or outcompete them for food

  • Recommended temperature: 20–26°C

  • Recommended pH: Approximately 6.5–7.5

  • Water hardness: Soft to moderately hard

  • Minimum tank size: Around 30–40 L for a small group, with larger tanks preferred for bigger shoals

  • Tank setup: Best kept in a mature, heavily planted aquarium with mosses, fine-leaved plants, shaded areas and gentle filtration

  • Diet: Omnivorous; feed fine flakes or micro pellets alongside small frozen or live foods such as baby brine shrimp, daphnia and cyclops

  • Care level: Beginner to intermediate

  • Swimming level: Primarily lower to mid-water

CPDs are social shoaling fish rather than tight-schooling fish. They often spread out through the aquarium when comfortable, with males displaying and sparring around plants. Keeping them in a larger group helps reduce shyness and encourages more natural behaviour and colouration.

Live fish are sold subject to availability and may vary slightly in size and colouration. Please review our livestock shipping and DOA guarantee before ordering.
