The Copei Tetra is a peaceful and attractive schooling tetra known for its streamlined body, subtle metallic sheen and active mid-water swimming behaviour. It is best suited to planted community aquariums where it can be kept in a proper group and display more natural behaviour.

  • Adult size: Approximately 4–5 cm

  • Temperament: Peaceful and active

  • Social behaviour: Schooling/shoaling species and should be kept in groups of at least 6–8, with groups of 10 or more preferred

  • Tank mates: Suitable with other peaceful community fish such as small to medium tetras, rasboras, Corydoras, Otocinclus and peaceful dwarf cichlids

  • Avoid with: Large, aggressive or highly boisterous fish that may intimidate or prey on them

  • Recommended temperature: 23–28°C

  • Recommended pH: Approximately 5.5–7.5

  • Water hardness: Soft to moderately hard

  • Minimum tank size: Around 60 L, with more horizontal swimming space preferred for larger groups

  • Tank setup: Best kept in a mature, well-filtered aquarium with plants, driftwood, shaded areas and plenty of open mid-water swimming space

Copei Tetras are social fish and should not be kept alone. A larger group helps them feel more secure, encourages natural schooling behaviour and generally results in better colour and activity.
