The Peppermint Pleco (Parancistrus nudiventris) is a beautiful freshwater catfish, admired for its dark body covered in contrasting white to pale yellow spots. Its distinctive pattern and unique appearance make it a popular choice among pleco enthusiasts and aquarists looking for something special.

Native to the Xingu River region of Brazil, this peaceful but territorial bottom-dweller spends much of its time resting among rocks and driftwood. It prefers well-oxygenated water, strong water movement and plenty of sheltered spaces to explore.

Feeding

Peppermint Plecos benefit from a varied diet consisting of quality sinking pleco pellets, algae-based foods and occasional protein-rich foods. Supplement their diet with suitable frozen foods such as bloodworms and brine shrimp. Ensure food reaches the bottom of the aquarium, especially when housed with faster-eating tank mates.

Aquarium Requirements

Provide a well-established aquarium with plenty of hiding spaces, smooth rocks and driftwood. Strong filtration, excellent oxygenation and consistent water conditions are important for maintaining their health.

Although generally peaceful, Peppermint Plecos may defend their preferred hiding spots against other plecos. Provide multiple caves and shelters, particularly when keeping more than one bottom-dwelling species.
