The Marble Angelfish is a beautiful selectively bred freshwater angelfish known for its unique black, white and silver marbled patterning. No two fish look exactly the same, and their tall body shape, long flowing fins and graceful swimming style make them a standout centrepiece fish in planted community aquariums.

  • Adult size: Body approximately 10–15 cm long, with a total height of up to 20–25 cm including fins

  • Temperament: Semi-aggressive; usually peaceful when young but can become territorial as they mature or form pairs

  • Social behaviour: Not a schooling fish. Juveniles can be kept in groups, while adults often pair off and establish territories

  • Tank mates: Best with peaceful to moderately robust community fish such as larger tetras, rainbowfish, Corydoras and peaceful catfish

  • Avoid with: Very small fish, aggressive cichlids and known fin-nipping species

  • Recommended temperature: 24–28°C

  • Recommended pH: Approximately 6.0–7.5

  • Water hardness: Soft to moderately hard

  • Minimum tank size: Around 100–120 L for a pair, with larger and taller aquariums preferred

  • Tank setup: Best kept in a tall, well-filtered aquarium with plants, driftwood, open swimming space and some broad-leaved plants

  • Diet: Omnivorous; feed quality flakes or pellets alongside frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, bloodworms and daphnia

  • Care level: Intermediate

  • Breeding behaviour: Pair-forming egg layer. Breeding pairs can become territorial and will defend their spawning area

Marble Angelfish are not schooling fish, although younger fish may loosely group together. As they mature, pairs often form and can become territorial, so providing plenty of space, plants and visual barriers helps reduce aggression.
