The Raccoon Tetra (Hyphessobrycon procyon) is an uncommon and attractive South American tetra known for its warm silvery-gold body, dark contrasting markings and distinctive “masked” appearance. Native to Brazil, this peaceful species is a great choice for planted community aquariums and looks especially impressive when kept in a proper group.

Raccoon Tetras are social fish and should not be kept alone. Keeping them in a larger group helps them feel secure and encourages natural shoaling, displaying and swimming behaviour. Males can also show stronger yellow-orange tones and more impressive finnage when comfortable.
