Aquarium Requirements

  • Use secure, tight-fitting aquarium lids, as Bichirs are excellent escape artists.

  • Maintain strong filtration and good water quality.

  • Keep with large, robust tankmates that cannot be swallowed.

  • Avoid housing with small fish, shrimp or other small aquatic animals.

Feeding

Tiger Bichirs are carnivorous and require a protein-rich diet. Offer quality sinking predator pellets, prawns, mussels, earthworms and suitable frozen foods. Feed appropriately sized portions and avoid relying solely on feeder fish.

Important: Tiger Bichirs grow very large and are unsuitable for standard community aquariums. They are ambush predators and will eat tankmates small enough to fit in their mouths. Ensure the aquarium is sized for their eventual adult length.
